Golden Globes-nominated English actor, producer and DJ Idris Elba’s directorial debut – Yardie – premiered in UK cinemas last week.
The film is set in 1970s Kingston and 1980s Hackney and tells the story of a young Jamaican man faced with many difficult choices and challenges.
Hot on the heels of the debut, the Jamaica Tourist Board has launched phase two of the #JoinMeInJamaica campaign, a series of eight 60-second inspirational videos featuring Jamaican personalities sharing their story about their passion for the Caribbean island.
Imani Wilmot features in the first video, describing what she loves about Jamaica’s surf scene and promises visitors a one-of-a-kind Jamaican experience.
In her own words: “We’re so proud of Jamaica that we want to share it with everybody.”
Imani Wilmot springs from a long line of creative writers, dancers, musicians and surfers.
Known as the SoulKisser, Wilmot’s creativity manifests in her poetry, photography, surfing and dance.
With her father being the godfather of Jamaican surfing, and her brothers professionals in the sport, it comes to no surprise that Imani has been chosen by the Jamaica Tourist Board as one of their brand ambassadors.
The Jamaica Tourist Board is charged with a mission of marketing the tourism product so that Jamaica remains the premier Caribbean tourism destination.
To this end, they position Jamaica as the most complete, unique and diverse warm weather destination in the world, which offers the best vacation value available.
