sbe has announced the appointment of Axel Gasser to the role of general manager of the company’s first hotel in the Middle East, the recently opened Mondrian Doha.

“Axel’s expertise in the luxury lifestyle industry will help cement Mondrian Doha as a go-to destination.”
A veteran in the hospitality space, Gasser joins Mondrian Doha from Starwood Hotels & Resorts where he was complex general manager at Westin Snowmass Resort in Colorado, USA.
Prior to that, he spent four years in Miami as managing director of the Mayfair Hotel & Spa as well as area general manager of Jordache Hotels.
Gasser said: “I am delighted to be leading the opening team of this iconic property.
“Mondrian Doha is not simply a hotel but a destination in itself, a unique oasis of dreams meshed with the Qatari culture in its fabric.
“With my new role, I aim to establish a level of service that will exceed every guest’s expectation.”
Located in the heart of the West Bay, the 270-room Mondrian Doha is designed in collaboration with world-renowned Dutch designer Marcel Wanders, and Southwest Architecture.
The property incorporates customised Marcel Wanders design features with influences from local patterns, ornate Arabic writing and historic souks.
Mondrian Doha features eight restaurants and bars, including CUT by Wolfgang Puck and Japanese Morimoto Doha by Masaharu.
The hotel also boasts the world’s largest Espa spa and a variety of stylish and unique options for meetings and special events including a 2,000 square-meter ballroom that can hold up to 1,500 guests.
