Britain’s annual National Ferry Fortnight will this year take place from April 14th-28th.
Now in its tenth year, National Ferry Fortnight is run by Discover Ferries, the industry body for the ferry sector, as a two-week showcase of Britain’s extensive 75-plus ferry routes and the benefits of travel by sea.
The 2018 Discover Ferries’ National Ferry Fortnight campaign theme is to “take your passion with you” – highlighting that ferry travel is an enabler for people to follow their own personal enthusiasms – whether that’s taking bikes, motorbikes, pets, large groups of friends or families, golf clubs, skis, surfboards, caravans and motorhomes overseas.
It also enables wildlife enthusiasts to spot marine wildlife from the deck of the ferry – or helps food and wine lovers to bring back a vehicle full of wines, boutique gins, craft beers or gourmet delicacies.
Discover Ferries will be sharing advice about taking vehicles or equipment on holiday and inspirational trips for great journeys.
During National Ferry Fortnight 2018 Discover Ferries’ members will also be publishing great ideas for holidays on ferry routes to Belgium, France, Holland, within London, Spain, Ireland, Isle of Wight, Isle of Man, Isles of Scilly and Scottish islands.
Emma Batchelor, Discover Ferries director, said: “There are more than 38 million passenger journeys by ferry every year with hundreds of families, couples and friends, walking, cycling or driving onto ferries to enjoy the freedom of a great value, independent holiday.
“It’s our job to encourage people who’ve not yet considered a ferry holiday, or not for some time, to look again and understand why it’s so popular.
“Ferry companies have invested heavily in recent years to introduce gleaming new ships full of fabulous facilities such as comfortable en-suite cabins, children’s play areas or restaurants serving delicious food, so people can have a great travel experience as part of their holiday.
“And just this year we announced that more than a billion pounds is being invested by ferry companies for even more new ships and port facilities in the future.
“National Ferry Fortnight will be a celebration of all the ways ferry travel allows holidaymakers to take their own passions away with them -whether that’s a mountain bike, snowboard or favourite pet!”
