Tui UK & Ireland has said, marketing and customer experience director, will leave the business after 27 years at the end of May.
Ellis has led the marketing division since 2011 and been responsible for the end to end ownership of brand, CRM, insights, content, social and digital marketing.
He developed ground-breaking, brand building emotional campaigns under the Thomson and First Choice banner; moving away from direct response holiday campaigns traditionally used in the travel industry.
Ellis has held various commercial, product and marketing roles in his 27 years.
He joined Thomson Holidays in 1991 as a graduate, where his first role was planning Mediterranean destinations in the summer sun and winter sun departments.
In 1995 he headed up the product development team who launched the first ever no-frills holiday product to be sold online and in 2006 his team created the first ever personalised ticket books winning a global award.
Fast forward to 2008, Ellis worked on the creation of the TUI Sensatori concept, launching the first hotel and went on to establish clear brand propositions for Thomson and First Choice, including making First Choice ‘the home of all inclusive’.
Speaking about his departure Ellis said: “I feel very lucky to have had such a long and varied career in TUI.
“It’s a fantastic business with fantastic people in a fantastic industry and I’ve learnt so much from my 27-year tenure.
“Leaving TUI will be hard as the business goes from strength to strength, but I know this is the right decision for me.”
Ellis will be handing over to Katie McAlister who will join the TUI UK & Ireland board as chief marketing officer from June.
McAlister joined TUI 19 years ago and has spent an equal amount of time working in commercial and digital roles, but recently as digital director for TUI Group.
