Etihad Airways has flown Team England back to the UK from the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.
The first of many Team England flights touched down into Heathrow Terminal 4 this morning at 07:30 after flying aboard Etihad’s flagship A380 aircraft from Brisbane via Abu Dhabi.
The flight included a number of Team England’s gold medallists, including gymnasts Alice Kinsella, Georgia-Mae Fenton, Dom Cunningham and Courtney Tulloch, swimming champions James Wilby, Aimee Willmott and Adam Peaty as well as para-powerlifting star Ali Jawad.
Etihad Airways is synonymous with sport, having previously flown thousands of elite athletes, coaches and supporters around the globe from Manchester City’s squads to England Cricket’s T20 2016 runner-up team and now Team England’s medal winning athletes.
James Harrison, general manager for Etihad Airways in the UK, said: “We’re excited to be bringing the successful athletes and their precious medal haul home.
“It’s a special and proud occasion to be a part of.”
Etihad has flown more than 500 athletes, support staff and equipment back to London following the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.
