To mark the forthcoming centenary of the birth of the late South African president and philanthropist, Nelson Mandela, The Saxon Hotel, Villas & Spa and Shambala Private Game Reserve are introducing an exclusive programme.
The event will celebrate the landmark anniversary of one of their most esteemed former regular guests.
Located in Johannesburg’s leafy Sandhurst neighbourhood, The Saxon provided a restful retreat for Madiba as he penned the last entries to his bestselling autobiography Long Walk To Freedom following his incarceration on Robben Island.
Meanwhile, its sister property, Shambala Private Game Reserve in the Limpopo Province, is home to the historic Nelson Mandela Villa, built especially for the former president as his personal holiday home.
Opened in 2001, the six-bedroom abode was used to receive Mandela’s prestigious guests and parties.
The new 100 Days of Madiba package will mark this centenary year with a dedicated package promising an exclusive insight into the life of this much-respected political revolutionary.
The 100 Days of Madiba experience includes:
Two nights’ accommodation at The Saxon hotel in one of its luxury suites, including full breakfast, one dinner at Qunu restaurant – named after Mandela’s early home – and one dinner at The Saxon’s new Grei restaurant, which is rapidly becoming a real local hotspot.
A pair of tickets to Liliesleaf heritage site in Johannesburg; once used by Mandela as a hide-out and political HQ.
A three-night African bushveld experience at the exclusive Shambala Private Game Reserve, including all meals, games drives, sunset cruise, bush walks and a tour of The Nelson Mandela Villa (subject to availability).
A copy of Long Walk To Freedom.
