Statistics from tour company TUI confirm Turkey is back on the map as a top summer holiday location.
Featuring in the five most booked TUI destinations by 11 countries, including the UK, the mid-haul hot spot scores an overall European ranking of third behind Med stalwarts Spain and Greece.
Italy is the fourth most popular place to jet away to, followed by Cyprus in fifth place.
As for many other Europeans, Spain tops the holiday charts for the UK with most TUI holiday makers looking to relax on the ‘Love Island’ of Majorca.
Greece and Cyprus come in at numbers two and three with Turkey and Mexico in fourth and fifth place.
Although there are some strong travel trends across all regions, most notably Spain, Greece and Turkey, there are some distinct preferences too.
The French feature Morocco in their top five, the Polish Bulgaria, the Austrians Croatia and the Brits and the Dutch are the only nation to favour long haul destinations to Cancun and Curacao respectively.
The Germans, however, are the only nation whose own country appears in their top five places to holiday this summer.
As well as Cancun and Majorca the UK favours Tenerife, Ibiza and Paphos while Antalya is the most popular Turkish location with Crete, Rhodes and Kos top choice for Greece across Europe.
