Wizz Air has appointed Joel Goldberg to the newly-created position of chief digital officer.
Goldberg, currently senior director technology, Europe for Nike, will take up his position on October 1st.
He will report to Stephen Jones, executive vice president and deputy chief executive and be responsible for the group’s e-commerce, data analytics and automation, IT innovation and IT infrastructure and services functions.
Wizz Air’s commitment to the United Kingdom market continues.
The operations of the company’s wholly-owned UK-licensed airline, Wizz Air UK, will become increasingly significant within the group as its London Luton-based fleet of brand new Airbus A320 and Airbus A321 aircraft grows to a total of nine aircraft by the end of 2018 and the number of local employees reaches almost 350.
Reflecting this growth, Owain Jones, currently the company’s chief corporate officer, becomes the managing director of Wizz Air UK with effect from September, reporting to the group’s chief executive, József Váradi.
Marion Geoffroy, currently head of legal, will be promoted to chief corporate officer also with effect from September 2018, reporting to the group’s chief executive.
Marion will be responsible for the legal, human resources and facilities functions.
József Váradi, chief executive, commented: “From the very start, digital technology has been a foundation of Wizz’s success, with 96 per cent of our sales coming through wizzair.com, already one of the world’s top ten most-visited airline websites.
“However, the world around us and our customers are becoming ever-more focused on digital channels and technologies.
“Joel Goldberg’s appointment as chief digital officer will ensure that Wizz Air’s digital development not only keeps up with, but also anticipates the future needs of our customers as well as improving efficiency across the business as we continue our mission to become the undisputed cost-leader among European airlines.
“Also, importantly, we remain highly driven by the market opportunities for the Wizz brand and customer proposition in the United Kingdom and as a result we continue to invest by building our network and operations as well as enhancing our leadership and organisational capacity in the country.
“Owain is an experienced and long-standing Wizz Air executive who will lead the next stage of development of Wizz Air UK.”
